Sweet Summer Protein Bites

Strawberry, hemp, and collagen snacks for summer

Overwhelming produce options?

Summer brings a frenzy of recipes; emphasizing the easy and fresh.

The Northeast has DISTINCT seasons, which I appreciate (if only) for the cycles of produce we get to experience.

Shopping at shops owned locally---even better, cooperatively! ---means creativity springs from what's available. The most affordable, highest quality plants to fuel your bod are found at small grocers, farmer's markets, an farm stands.

Get out there this summer.

In addition to gaining flavor and health benefits, shopping from farm-fresh suppliers cuts extra costs and environmentally devastating packaging! Woohoo.

BYOB

At the very least, BRING YOUR OWN BAGS where ever you shop!

And take a peak in your cart: is everything suffocated by a layer of PLASTIC?!

Pretty good indication you food is not fresh, and the store you're supporting with your dollar is harming the environment with their plastic garbage.

Wake up, world.

The sexiest produce around.

Compromise

After getting all of your produce loose, and buying your staple nuts/grains/tea/whatever in the cornucopia that is the BULK SECTION of your store, let some stuff slide. After all, we're human, and there are a few companies that make really great products of both convenience and quality.

What you choose to compromise on is totally individual.

For me, these freeze-dried berries are one of them!

They're melty and flavorful, perfect for stuffing inside my protein energy balls for summer!! Yay.

These beauties are packed with collagen protein, healthy fat, and taste like summer donuts. Win, win, win.

Strawberry Hemp Balls

  • 1 1/2 c collagen protein (I used Ancient Nutrition)
  • 1/2 c coconut flakes
  • 1 c cacao nibs
  • 1/2 c hemp seeds
  • 2 t vanilla extract
  • 3 drops lemon essential oil
  • 1/2 c coconut oil, melted
  • 1/2 c cacao butter, melted
  • 1 package freeze dried strawberries
  1. Mix dry ingredients, pour melted fats into bowl and press together.
  2. Roll balls between hands, roll in more hemp or coconut, if desired.
  3. Store in fridge or freezer.

Roll in tahini and hemp seeds if you feelin' fancy AF.

Happy summer, y'all.
