Intestinal Permeability


Health is wealth

Maybe doctors don't want to talk about intestinal permeability (leaky gut) because there's no pill to fix it.

It's not easily diagnosed or treated.

It's completely undetectable during a 5 minute check up.

What is it?

Our guts have become more permeable in recent years.

The gut lining is like a lattice of tissue, like when you intertwine your fingers to "fold your hands."

As the gut lining weakens, the fingers grow farther apart, making a mesh that allows more stuff to pass though.

The microvilli (nutrient absorption sites) become damaged too.

Leaky gut probs

When particles sneak through the barrier of the gut, the body sees them as intruders.

This results in food sensitivities, and can eventually lead to autoimmunity.

Autoimmunity is a whole other bag of bananas.

And it deserves it's own post soon.

But, autoimmunity, basically?

The body mistakes its OWN cells for those foreign invaders, and does everything it can to keep you safe.

Why's everyone talking about it?

Intestinal permeability is on the rise because of a few environmental factors

  1. Inflammation
  2. Antibiotics
  3. Microflora


Many people suspect inflammation to be a leading cause of modern diseases!

As your body fights to get the foreign particles that seeped through the gut lining OUT, it becomes massively inflamed.


Our society is real quick to slap an antibiotic solution on just about everything.

And conventional meat is heavily dosed with antibiotics.

Some say the reason vegetarians feel better (for a little while) when they quit eating conventional meat? They're not eating as many antibiotics .

Unfortunately, it destroys all the good bacteria in our bodies when we take them.

You've heard about good bacteria for smooth digestion, but it also protects the mucosal lining of the gut.


Those that struggle nurturing those good gut bugs will struggle with leaky gut.

A decrease in intestinal diversity leads to break down of that mucosal lining of the gut, and a breakdown in immunity.

Your immune is system is kind of, like, really important.

Common Symptoms

Bloating, headaches, poor memory, fatigue, brain fog, skin rashes, acne, bacterial over-growths, allergies, diarrhea, constipation, and thyroid issues.
